After each having a week off, the Pike Red Devils and the Brownsburg Bulldogs will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pike has given up an average of 27 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Pike is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 46 points on October 10th, they were much more limited against Lawrence North last Friday. They were dealt a 42-7 loss at the hands of the Wildcats. The defeat continues a trend for the Red Devils in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost four in a row.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Bobby Thomas and Izayveon Moore. Moore had a great game and rushed for 228 yards and five scores while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Thomas did his best for the losing side, rushing for 90 yards and one TD on only 12 carries.
Meanwhile, Brownsburg put another one in the bag last Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Hamilton Southeastern to the tune of 35-7. Considering the Bulldogs have won six matchups by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brownsburg's win came from a few key players Pike will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Shakovon Sumpterbey, who rushed for 135 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 90 yards. Another player making a difference was Aiden Jobe, who rushed for 93 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries.
Brownsburg didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Hamilton Southeastern to a completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Drew Bostic for the heroic effort on defense: he. Brownsburg hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.57 or higher in three consecutive games.
Pike's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Brownsburg, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Pike has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 191.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Brownsburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 186.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Pike was taken down by Brownsburg 37-0 in their previous matchup back in October of 2021. Thankfully for the Red Devils, Garrett Sherrell (who rushed for 169 yards and three TDs while picking up 7.0 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
