Preview: Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack vs. St. Mary's Cardinals

Elgin/Pope John is 1-9 against St. Mary since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack will head out on the road to take on the St. Mary's Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Elgin/Pope John is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.

Last Thursday, Elgin/Pope John came up short against Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] and fell 42-33. While losing is never fun, Elgin/Pope John can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] is ranked 44th).

St. Mary's has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They received a tough blow on Thursday as they fell 66-52 to West Holt.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Logan Brabec, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Ben Barlow was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Elgin/Pope John's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8. As for St. Mary's, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.

Elgin/Pope John came up short against St. Mary's in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 59-50. Can Elgin/Pope John avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
