Basketball Recap: Zoe Corjay's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Horizon over Bloomingdale

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Horizon can now relate to. They came up short against the Bloomingdale Bulls on Friday, falling 73-51. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Hawks have suffered since January 21st.

Horizon lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Zoe Corjay, who posted seven points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emma Andrulouis, who scored 14 points.

Even though they lost, Horizon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in six consecutive matchups.

Bloomingdale's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Izellah Kendrick, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 14 boards. The dominant performance also gave Kendrick a new career-high in blocks (six). Noelle Mengel was another key player, going 5-for-7 on her way to 14 points and six steals.

Horizon's loss dropped their record down to 19-9. As for Bloomingdale, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-5.

Horizon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Bloomingdale will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Tocoi Creek at 1:00 p.m. on March 6th. One thing working in Bloomingdale's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 14 games.
