Football Game Preview: Vicksburg Gators vs. Lanier Bulldogs + Official Tickets

The Vicksburg Gators will venture away from home to square off against the Lanier Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Thursday, Vicksburg was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 22-16 to Holmes County Central. The Gators have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Vicksburg might have lost, but man, Jadarius Henderson was a machine: he rushed for 169 yards and a pair of scores. Henderson also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Gators are 4-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-3 otherwise.

Meanwhile, in Friday's Canine Competition, Lanier had to take the L. They took a 22-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cleveland Central on Friday. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Vicksburg will have to contain Ashton Mikell as he made an impact in Lanier's last game. He rushed for 110 yards and one TD on only 11 carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 75 yards.

Vicksburg's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Lanier, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Vicksburg has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 175.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lanier struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 347.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Vicksburg against Lanier in their previous meeting back in October of 2016, as the squad secured a 44-0 victory. Will the Gators repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
