Basketball Recap: Frederick Triumphs

Frederick came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 51-50 W against the Horizon Hawks.

Frederick's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rylee Gallegos, who went 6-for-14 on her way to 12 points along with seven assists and five steals. The dominant performance gave Gallegos a new career-high in assists. Emma Rivera was another key player, putting up ten points.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gabby Newble, who went 5-for-11 en route to 16 points and six boards. Newble has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Genia Harris, who posted 13 points.

Frederick's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Horizon, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.

Looking ahead, Frederick will take on Niwot at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Thalia Almaraz and Zoe Wittler. As for Horizon, they will host Arvada West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Arvada West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.
