Basketball Recap: South Jones Snags 13th Win in Last 14 Games

Natchez typically has all the answers at home, but on Friday South Jones proved too difficult a challenge. They enjoyed a cozy 57-42 victory over the Natchez Bulldogs. Given the Braves' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Bulldogs are ranked 105th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Randall Newell, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 10 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was William Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

South Jones has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Natchez, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8.

South Jones didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-51 win against Madison Central on the 20th. As for Natchez, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-59 victory against Provine on the 24th.
