Softball Preview: Berkeley Yellowjackets vs. Hayward Farmers
Berkeley has been on the road for two straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Hayward Farmers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Berkeley will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Castro Valley, who they hadn't topped in nine consecutive meetings. Berkeley walked away with a 7-3 win over Castro Valley on Tuesday.
Addison Davis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Oona Capristo was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Gemma Ross, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Meanwhile, Hayward put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They never let Tennyson onto the board and left with a 20-0 victory. While fans of Hayward might be used to big wins, the 20-run margin marked the team's biggest one yet.
Toni Crittendon made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Crittendon was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with a home run, four runs, and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lovanita Cabanas, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Anabelle Cardenas, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
