Preview: Harrison Raiders vs. Richmond Red Devils
Harrison has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Richmond Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Harrison beat Merrillville 56-52.
Malachi King was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ray Gibson, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, Richmond can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Saturday. They blew past Centerville 71-30 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Richmond has posted since December 15, 2023.
Richmond's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Carpenter led the charge by scoring 18 points. Carpenter continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cedric Horton, who scored 17 points.
Harrison's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-8. As for Richmond, their win bumped their record up to 17-1.
Harrison beat Richmond 55-42 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Richmond's Gunner Kovach, who scored 14 points along with five steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Harrison to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
