Softball Game Preview: Granbury Pirates vs. Azle Hornets

The Granbury Pirates will head out to face off against the Azle Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Granbury took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Saginaw by a score of 4-1. The victory was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

The team relied heavily on Preslee Carnes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Morgan Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Azle). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Saginaw a 16-0 shutout on Friday. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Rough Riders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Fallon Inglet made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Inglet was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bella Tipton was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Kaylee Daniels also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Azle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Granbury's record now sits at 5-11-1. As for Azle, their record is now 7-11-2.

Granbury skirted past Azle 12-11 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
