Vasquez scaled the state rankings by moving to 900 from 926 this week, the biggest jump in Desert Mountain. The Mustangs climbed the ranks as a result of besting Desert Christian 51-31.
Riverside Prep lost to Excelsior Charter 40-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Justyce Cardoza was a bright spot for the Silver Knights, as he caught 1 pass for 28 yards in the defeat.
Silver Valley's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Evan Martinez threw for 174 and 1 touchdown and Bailey Rettmann had 52 yards receiving. On the ground Daniel Quixchan contributed 198 yards. James Liker helped Silver Valley's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 25 yards.
Quixchan was a passing and rushing force as the Trojans fell to Sage Hill. Quixchan's key target this week was Rettmann, who caught 6 passes for 52 yards.
Quixchan was the best running back in the league this week. In 38 carries, he ran for 198 yards as Silver Valley fell to the Lightning. Teammate Jonathan Villamor added to the ground attack by rushing for 28 yards.
5-foot-9 quarterback Martinez of John Stewart's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,045. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Chad Gleason. The Desert star has 21 catches for 439 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Silver Valley takes on second place Excelsior Charter. Last week, the Trojans lost to Sage Hill, while the Eagles defeated Riverside Prep.
