Softball Game Preview: Seneca Fighting Irish vs. Moline Maroons

The Seneca Fighting Irish will take on the Moline Maroons at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Seneca's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last eight contests.

Seneca's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Marquette. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Irish, who have now won 26 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Moline hadn't done well against Sterling recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Maroons came out on top against the Golden Warriors by a score of 9-4. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Maroons as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Lilyanna Reyna spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Moline got a massive performance out of Payton Vanzuiden, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Young, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Moline lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in May of 2025.

Moline's victory bumped their record up to 10-17. As for Seneca, their win bumped their record up to 31-1.
