Baseball Recap: Hoggard Takes a Loss

Hoggard fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Topsail on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 8-7. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Hoggard saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandon Bush, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Bush a new career-high in doubles (two).

Hoggard's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Topsail, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Hoggard is set to face off against their familiar foe New Hanover at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Topsail will square off against rival Laney at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
