Basketball Recap: Steeleville's Run of Six Straight Wins Now Over

Steeleville and Waltonville squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Steeleville had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Waltonville Spartans by a score of 54-51. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while the Spartans are ranked 109th).

Waltonville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gage Peterson led the charge by dropping a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. Peterson is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last 20 games he's played. Ryley Stewart was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

The loss snapped Steeleville's winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 20-13 record. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points over those games. As for Waltonville, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 28-4.
