Softball Recap: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Our Lady of Mount Carmel walked away with it. They walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Friends Quakers on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Cougars' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Erin Martin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Libercci, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Kori Mikel also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel's win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-11. As for Friends, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Looking ahead, Our Lady of Mount Carmel will square off against Pallotti at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of. Friends does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
