Softball Recap: Southmont Extends Winning Streak to Five

Southmont entered their tilt with Crawfordsville on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Athenians 10-0. Considering the Mounties have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ella Barry made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last eight contests. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaylee Turner, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Emily Simpson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Southmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in five consecutive games.

Southmont's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Crawfordsville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Southmont beat Crawfordsville by a score of 14-0 on Wednesday.
