Preview: La Cueva Bears vs. Piedra Vista Panthers

La Cueva is 10-0 against Piedra Vista since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The La Cueva Bears will be playing at home against the Piedra Vista Panthers at 7:00 p.m. La Cueva has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 1,417 points over their last 20 contests.

Last Saturday, La Cueva faced West Mesa in a battle between two of the state's top teams. La Cueva walked away with a 71-63 win over West Mesa. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

La Cueva found their leader in underclassman Eric Jacobsen, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brandon Bartlett, who scored 12 points.

Meanwhile, Piedra Vista's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Eldorado 70-29. While losing is never fun, Piedra Vista can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while Eldorado is ranked 24th).

La Cueva is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Piedra Vista, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-17.

Everything came up roses for La Cueva against Piedra Vista in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 77-45 victory. Does La Cueva have another victory up their sleeve, or will Piedra Vista turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
