Baseball Recap: Rockport-Fulton Has No Trouble Against Taft

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rockport-Fulton). They were the clear victor by a 17-0 margin over the Taft Greyhounds on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Sean Howell made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dawson Phillips, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Jake Self, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Rockport-Fulton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .781. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Rockport-Fulton's record now sits at 4-1-1. As for Taft, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4-1.

Looking ahead, Rockport-Fulton will be playing at home against Edna at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Edna's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Rockport-Fulton's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Taft, they will challenge Poth at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
