Marietta Lassiter senior quarterback Hutson Mason passed for a Georgia state-record 545 yards during a 56-32 victory over Milton last Friday. Operating the Trojans’ no-huddle, spread offense nicknamed “Air Raid,” he completed 32 of 44 passes – six of them for touchdowns – to nine different receivers, with no interceptions.

The previous single-game standard was 524 yards by Lamar County’s Ron Hinson in 1977.

“What’s really impressive is that we weren’t blowing somebody out,” Lassiter head coach Chip Lindsey said. "We were just trying to win the game. We pulled him out with about eight minutes left.

“He’s the most accurate guy I’ve ever been around. He has great pocket presence and is very elusive. He’s a very humble kid from a great family. His teammates really like him.”

With a strong finish for the 7-0 Trojans, the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder also could surpass state records for single-season and Class 5A career passing yards.

Mason was only five yards short of the single-season record of 3,710 yards as a junior when he was named Georgia’s Offensive Player of The Year. He completed 291 of 420 passes for 3,705 yards and 31 touchdowns.

This year he has connected on 158 of 209 for 2,377 yards and 26 touchdowns. His completion percentage is an impressive .760 and he has thrown just three interceptions.
