Football Preview: Quitman Panthers vs. Morton Panthers

The Quitman Panthers have the luxury of staying home for another week and will welcome the Morton Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Quitman's defense has only allowed 16.6 points per game this season, so Morton's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Last Friday, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Quitman made off with a 20-19 victory over Stone.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Morton). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Pelahatchie 52-0 at home. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Morton found their leader in underclassman Tristen Hobson, who rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Another player making a difference was Jay Bowie, who rushed for 91 yards on only eight carries.

Morton's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Dariyun Moses and Davon Rance. Moses is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Morton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 322 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved they're rushing yard total in four consecutive contests.

Quitman now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Morton, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Quitman took their victory against Morton when the teams last played back in September of 2023 by a conclusive 62-42. Does Quitman have another victory up their sleeve, or will Morton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
