Basketball Recap: Dynamic duo of Jonathen Holderby and Brady Johnston lead Grace Christian to victory

Basketball Recap: Grace Christian vs. Victory Baptist Academy Saints

Grace Christian's game last Thursday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They managed a 55-49 win over Victory Baptist Academy. For Grace Christian, this counts as revenge for the 57-51 defeat the Saints walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.

Leading Grace Christian to victory were Jonathen Holderby and Brady Johnston. Holderby scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks, while Johnston almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. Jacob Moses was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven assists and two steals.

Victory Baptist Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Isaac Conaway and Ethan Hunt. Conaway dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, while Hunt scored 15 points. Hunt hasn't dropped below 15 points for seven straight games.

Even though they lost, Victory Baptist Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Grace Christian only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Grace Christian's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11. As for Victory Baptist Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grace Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Eagles at 2:15 p.m. on February 3rd. Fairview has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Victory Baptist Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cavaliers at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Mercer Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully the Saints like a good challenge.
