Basketball Recap: Amir Goss' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Elite over Fortune Early College

After flying high against Creative Connections Arts Academy last Tuesday, Elite came back down to earth. The Elite Eagles fell 68-56 to the Fortune Early College Panthers on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 992nd, while the Panthers are ranked 488th).

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amir Goss, who posted 14 points. Jermeer Hicks was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Kaden Bean was his usual excellent self, earning 17 points in addition to eight assists and six steals for Fortune Early College. Bean has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Tanner, who had 11 points and three steals.

Elite's loss dropped their record down to 8-19. As for Fortune Early College, they pushed their record up to 18-7 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Elite has already played their next game, a 64-43 victory against Westlake Charter on the 11th. As for Fortune Early College, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 83-27 win against Creative Connections Arts Academy on the 11th.
