Recap: Centura vs. Wood River

After losing to Centura the last time they met, Wood River decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Wood River came out on top in a nail-biter against Centura, sneaking past 19-17. The success represented a nice turnaround for Wood River, who in their last game suffered a tough 3-26 loss.

After a totally unproductive first quarter, the Wood River offense stepped up its game and put 12 points on the board in the second quarter. Centura wasn't quite able to keep up, scoring 7 to make it 12-7 heading into the break. Wood River almost let the match get away from them in the second half, but they had just enough oomph to take it.

No one put up better numbers for Wood River than senior Tanner Hermann, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns. The win got them back to even at 3-3. The defeat dropped Centura's record to 4-2.

Next week Wood River take on Grand Island Central Catholic at 7:00 PM. Unlike Wood River, Grand Island Central Catholic will be limping in after taking a loss. Centura will be staying on the road, facing off against Gibbon. Centura have seen their point totals decreasing over the past three games, a vulnerability Gibbon are surely hoping to exploit.
