Softball Recap: Five Straight Home Wins for Union County

Union County not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 8th (when they won 17-4). They blew past the Cowan Blackhawks 14-1. The win was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won three games in a row.

Union County let Ally Gray and Harly Pilgrim run wild. Gray went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double, while Pilgrim went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Pilgrim has posted since April 8th. The team also got some help courtesy of Carsyn Garrett, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Union County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Union County pushed their record up to 6-6 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cowan, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Union County will welcome Monroe Central at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.42 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cowan, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 14-2 victory against Wapahani on the 1st.
