Softball Game Preview: Coon Rapids Cardinals vs. Champlin Park Rebels

The Coon Rapids Cardinals will head out to challenge the Champlin Park Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coon Rapids has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Coon Rapids was handed a 15-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against North Branch, sneaking past 13-11. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cardinals needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Meanwhile, Champlin Park made easy work of St. Michael-Albertville on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Champlin Park has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. Coon Rapids' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9.

Coon Rapids might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Champlin Park when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
