Basketball Recap: Drew Buchanan and Logan Buchanan Secure Win for Benjamin

Benjamin posted their closest win since December 11, 2023 on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the St. Edward's Pirates 48-45. Winning may never get old, but the Buccaneers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Leading Benjamin to victory were Logan Buchanan and Drew Buchanan. Logan dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards, while Drew dropped a double-double on 12 points and 17 rebounds. Drew has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tristan Cameron, who posted six points and five boards.

Benjamin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayzere Cannon, who went 6 of 12 en route to 19 points. Cody Simmonds was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

Benjamin's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for St. Edward's, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4.

Benjamin will take on Miami Country Day in a tournament on Wednesday. Miami Country Day knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Benjamin likes a good challenge. As for St. Edward's, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 67-53 victory against St. Petersburg Catholic on the 17th.
