Recap: Mankato East Cougars vs. Owatonna Huskies
After a string of seven wins, the Mankato East Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 57-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Owatonna. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mankato East came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Owatonna is ranked 166th).
Leading Owatonna to victory were Carsyn Brady and Ava Olson. Brady dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Olson scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Brady has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maryn Pool, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Mankato East's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-7. As for Owatonna, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Mankato East will be playing at home against Faribault at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Owatonna, they will head out on the road to take on Century at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Century's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests.
