Baseball Recap: Oceanside Takes a Loss

Oceanside had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 9-17 to make it four. They came up short against the Westview Wolverines, falling 22-0. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wolverines earlier this season, when they won 5-3.

As for Westview, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.

For Westview's part, Logan Johnson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Johnson has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Charles Jaskowiak was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and two stolen bases. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Holeman, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.

While Oceanside had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
