Softball Game Preview: Frankfort Redbirds vs. Eldorado Eagles

Frankfort has gone a perfect 3-0 against Eldorado recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Redbirds will challenge the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Eldorado took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Frankfort, who comes in off a win.

Frankfort gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They skirted past Nashville 8-6. While the Redbirds didn't have the best season last year (they finished 13-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Annabelle Hopkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Lainee Dunston was incredible, going 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Makayla Joyner was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Eldorado was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 19th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 22-3 to Hamilton County. On the bright side, the three- run performance marked the Eagles' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Frankfort has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Eldorado, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.

Frankfort beat Eldorado 10-7 in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Will the Redbirds repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
