Baseball Game Preview: Camden Hills Windjammers vs. Messalonskee Eagles

The Camden Hills Windjammers will take on the Messalonskee Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Camden Hills and five for Messalonskee.

Camden Hills is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since May 10, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Brunswick by a score of 3-1.

Walker Hedrich spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Camden Hills saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kai Young, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Meanwhile, Messalonskee faced Bangor in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Eagles fell 7-2 to the Rams.

Camden Hills' defeat dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Messalonskee, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Camden Hills has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Messalonskee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Camden Hills skirted past Messalonskee 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Windjammers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
