Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Gunnison

Gunnison had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They blew past the Battle Mountain Huskies 13-3. That's two games straight that the Cowboys have won by exactly ten runs.

Talon Kibler spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kahne Chippini, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Buckhanan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Gunnison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.

Gunnison's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Battle Mountain, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2.

Gunnison has already played their next matchup, a 9-8 loss against Alamosa on the 1st. As for Battle Mountain, they will face off against Eagle Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The game will give the Huskies their first taste of in-conference action this season.
