Basketball Recap: Make It Seven in a Row for Chiawana

Chiawana proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 24) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. It was close, but they capped 2024 with a 59-56 win over the Mead Panthers. This was payback for the Riverhawks, who suffered a 58-53 loss the last time these two teams met.

Chiawana's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Baylee Maldonado, who posted 11 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaia Foster, who put up six points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.

The win (which was Chiawana's seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1. As for Mead, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chiawana will face off against Southridge at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Mead, they will take on Cheney at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
