Basketball Recap: Rush-Henrietta's Victory on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Rush-Henrietta put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against the Colonie Central Raiders as the Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets made off with a 71-50 victory. Given the Royal Comets' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Raiders are ranked 172nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rush-Henrietta was led to victory by Avery Council and Jalen Taggart. Council went 12 for 19 on his way to 29 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, while Taggart went 7 for 13 on his way to 27 points and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which Taggart has scored at least a third of Rush-Henrietta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahquin Brown, who posted four points in addition to eight assists, eight boards, and five steals.

Rush-Henrietta's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.7 points per game. As for Colonie Central, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rush-Henrietta will venture away from home to take on Green Tech at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Rush-Henrietta's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Colonie Central, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bethlehem Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
