Baseball Recap: Fort Wayne Northrop Comes Up Short

Fort Wayne Northrop extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-18 in the process. They came up short against the Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Knights, falling 20-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bruins have suffered against the Knights since May 13, 2021.

Fort Wayne Northrop saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Malachi Williams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

As for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

On Fort Wayne Bishop Luers' side, Vincent Knipp looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Jacob Felger and Christian Brell did most of the damage at the plate: Felger went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple, while Brell went 2-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four runs gave Brell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Kiracofe, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Fort Wayne Northrop will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Bellmont at 10:00 a.m. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Bruins will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, they will venture away from home to square off against Garrett at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
