Basketball Recap: Amelia Academy Patriots vs. Southampton Academy Raiders
The Amelia Academy Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They were dealt a 63-36 loss at the hands of Southampton Academy. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Amelia Academy of the 78-67 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Amelia Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kyle Anderson. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points along with six rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Anderson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jacob Barbour, who scored six points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Southampton Academy found their leader in underclassman G Applewhite, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. Applewhite has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 17 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of J Holland, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Amelia Academy's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Southampton Academy, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-11.
Amelia Academy will head out on the road to square off against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brunswick Academy will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Southampton Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Tidewater Academy has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15.
