Baseball Game Preview: Lakewood Gators vs. South Florence Bruins

The Lakewood Gators will square off against the South Florence Bruins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Lakewood fell victim to Wilson and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Tigers. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Gators' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, South Florence entered their tilt with Sumter on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Gamecocks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Bruins have posted against the Gamecocks since March 23, 2018.

The team relied heavily on Landon Hill, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Ben Tyner also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

South Florence was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lakewood dropped their record down to 2-7 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for South Florence, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.

Lakewood suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to South Florence in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
