Volleyball Game Preview: Steele Comets vs. Avon Eagles

The Steele Comets will take on the Avon Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Steele came up short against Perrysburg on Thursday, falling 3-0. The loss continues a trend for the Comets in their meetings with the Yellow Jackets: they've now lost four in a row.

While Steele was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Perrysburg's winning margin in every set. The final score came out to 25-17, 25-18, 25-19.

Meanwhile, Avon beat Euclid 3-1 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Avon had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23.

Steele's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Avon, they pushed their record up to 4-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's matchup: Steele has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Steele was able to grind out a solid victory over Avon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
