Great Oak extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 11-9-1. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Temecula Valley Golden Bears. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Golden Bears this season, with their most recent loss being a 9-4 defeat on Thursday.
Great Oak got a good showing from Devin Cuellar, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Furthermore, Cuellar didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.
On the hitting side, Jack Apodaca was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Landon Benavides also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
As for Temecula Valley, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.
On Temecula Valley's side, Mateo Mendoza looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mendoza has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Chase Hilt was excellent, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jude Maines, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Great Oak has already played their next contest, a 10-2 win against Murrieta Mesa on the 21st. As for Temecula Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 14-4 victory against Murrieta Valley on the 21st.
