Basketball Recap: Monett Comes Up Short

Monett was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took an 84-68 bruising from the McDonald County Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cubs of the 66-45 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Dakota O'Brien was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 35 points and 19 rebounds for McDonald County. The dominant performance also gave O'Brien a new career-high in assists (six). Another player making a difference was Jamie Washam, who shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten boards.

Monett's loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for McDonald County, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monett will face off against Lamar at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. McDonald County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Branson at 7:30 p.m. on February 25th.
