Baseball Game Preview: Chugiak Mustangs vs. Bartlett Golden Bears

The Chugiak Mustangs will face off against the Bartlett Golden Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Chugiak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Eagle River, who was ranked fourth at the time (Chugiak was ranked 11th). The Mustangs came up short against the Wolves on Wednesday, falling 9-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Chugiak saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Dockstader, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Dockstader has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Meanwhile, Bartlett was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 14-2 to Service. Surprisingly, this marked the Golden Bears' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Bartlett's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Chugiak, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-8.

Everything went Chugiak's way against Bartlett in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Chugiak made off with a 15-0 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Golden Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
