Football Game Preview: Murtaugh Red Devils vs. Oakley Hornets

Murtaugh is 1-6 against Oakley since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Red Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Murtaugh has given up an average of 34 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Murtaugh is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Idaho's top teams: Hagerman, who was ranked fifth at the time (Murtaugh was ranked 20th). The Red Devils were beaten by the Pirates 46-0 on Friday. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Red Devils were not able to get on the board.

Murtaugh didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Stetson Perkins.

Meanwhile, Oakley played a tough game last Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Hagerman, falling 52-22. The Hornets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-6.

Murtaugh's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Oakley, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Everything came up roses for Murtaugh against Oakley when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 62-28 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
