Softball Game Preview: Whitley County Colonels vs. Knox Central Panthers

The Whitley County Colonels are headed away from home for the first time to square off against the Knox Central Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Monday, Whitley County didn't have quite enough to beat Somerset and fell 6-5. While the Colonels didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Briar Jumpers 5-1 in the first period.

Caylee Singleton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Whitley County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madi Rains, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. The dominant performance gave Rains a new career-high in RBI.

Meanwhile, Knox Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Jackson County on Monday, taking the game 10-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

The team relied heavily on Jayme Swafford, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sydney Grubb, who scored four runs while going 3-for-3.

Whitley County now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Knox Central, their record is now 2-0.

Everything went Whitley County's way against Knox Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Whitley County made off with an 8-2 win. Does Whitley County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Knox Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
