Football Game Preview: Adams Cougars vs. Newman Smith Trojans + How To Watch

The Adams Cougars will head out to challenge the Newman Smith Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Adams has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with six straight defeats, while Newman Smith will come in with five straight wins.

Adams is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Creekview on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Cougars were dealt a 59-7 loss at the hands of the Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 977th, while the Mustangs are ranked 405th).

Even if they lost, Adams' defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Tremon Gilstrap, Isaac Santos, and Kaden Thomas, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Newman Smith got themselves on the board against Turner on Friday, but Turner never followed suit. They breezed past the Lions to the tune of 52-0. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five contests by 21 points or more so far this season.

Newman Smith's win came from a few key players Adams will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Maxim Mingo, who picked up 100 receiving yards and one touchdown. His receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 receiving yards.

Newman Smith was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 249 rushing yards. They are a perfect 4-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Adams' defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Newman Smith, their record now sits at 5-2.

Adams took a serious blow against Newman Smith when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 37-7. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
