Basketball Recap: Bradford Comes Up Short

Bradford was the 46-41 winner over Newberry when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Bradford Tornadoes were dealt an 84-49 loss at the hands of the Newberry Panthers on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Tornadoes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Panthers are ranked 20th).

Bradford's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brieon Johnson, who went 8 of 10 on his way to 16 points, and Maliki Cobarris, who posted 12 points and eight assists. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Cason, who earned ten points and five rebounds.

Newberry's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Mccloud, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Dunnmore, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Bradford's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 13-4. As for Newberry, the win keeps them at an undefeated 19-0.

Bradford has already played their next contest, a 52-40 victory against Palatka on the 30th. As for Newberry, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-42 win against Gainesville on the 28th.
