Football Recap: Hilliard Darby Comes Up Short

Hilliard Darby lost against Grove City back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Panthers fell 24-13 to the Greyhounds. The game marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite the loss, Hilliard Darby still got an impressive performance from Kohen Kornegay, who rushed for 223 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Kornegay's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 136 rushing yards.

Grove City's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carson Welsh, who threw for 176 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 61 yards. The Greyhounds' leading receiver Owen Steele was Welsh's top target yet again, picking up 118 receiving yards and one score.

This is the second loss in a row for Hilliard Darby and nudges their season record down to 2-3. As for Grove City, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Hilliard Darby and Grove City will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Panthers will take on rival Olentangy Berlin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Grove City is set to challenge their familiar foe New Albany at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
