The Reading Blue Devils will take on the Goshen Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Reading put up the most runs they have all season on Monday. They skirted past Wyoming 21-20. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Devils have posted since May 19, 2025.
Reading got a massive performance out of Meredith Hess, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliza Schierloh, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBI.
Reading was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Goshen came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Considering the Warriors have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Kenzie Durbin's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Charlize Schulz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Macee Steele, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Goshen's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Reading, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Reading hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like Goshen struggles in that department as they've averaged .355. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Reading suffered a grim 19-9 defeat to Goshen when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
