Softball Recap: Lemont Comes Up Short

After flying high against Clinton on Wednesday, Lemont came back down to earth. The Lemont HS fell just short of the Karns Beavers by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday.

Mila Mardjetko was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits.

At the plate, Natalie Pacyga was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Claire Podrebarac also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Lemont's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Karns, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Lemont will head out to face off against Campbell County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.36 runs per game on average), something the Lemont HS will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Karns, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Halls at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils' pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so the Beavers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
