Softball Recap: Rhea County Victorious

Rhea County won the last time they faced Cookeville and things went their way on Monday too. The Golden Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cavaliers 11-9.

Allie Shaver made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.

In other batting news, Landree Brown was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brook Tallent, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Rhea County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .389. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Rhea County's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9. As for Cookeville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Rhea County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 loss against Cleveland on the 15th. As for Cookeville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 16-6 defeat against Lebanon on the 15th.
