Basketball Recap: Bessemer City Beats Highland Tech for Their Third Straight Victory

Bessemer City had won two straight games and Tristen Gordon did his part to make it three on Monday. The Bessemer City Yellow Jackets enjoyed a cozy 75-60 win over the Highland Tech Rams thanks in part to Gordon, who went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc en route to 33 points in addition to six steals and five assists. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in shooting accuracy (69%).

Josiah Guyton was another key player, going 8-for-15 to rack up 22 points. The contest was his third in a row with at least 15 points.

Despite the loss, Highland Tech still got an impressive performance from Elijah Sherrill, who went 9-for-15 on his way to 28 points along with six assists and six boards. That was a full 46.7% of Highland Tech's points, marking the ninth time in a row Sherrill has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper McCraw, who went 8-for-9 en route to 18 points.

Bessemer City's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-10. As for Highland Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.

Looking ahead, Bessemer City won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Shelby at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shelby knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 games -- so hopefully Bessemer City likes a good challenge. Highland Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
