Soccer Game Preview: South Pontotoc vs. Byhalia

The South Pontotoc Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Byhalia Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Pontotoc has given up an average of 3.2 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

South Pontotoc is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Ripley just ended the team's five-match winning streak on Monday. They lost 8-2 to the Tigers.

Meanwhile, Byhalia won against Ripley on Thursday with five goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Tuesday. The Indians walked away with a 5-3 win over Senatobia. That's two games straight that Byhalia have won by exactly two goals.

The victory made it two in a row for Byhalia and bumps their season record up to 3-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored ten goals over those two matchups. As for South Pontotoc, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 6-4.

South Pontotoc got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in December of 2025 against Byhalia by a conclusive 8-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
