Basketball Game Preview: Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets vs. South Granville Vikings

Roanoke Rapids hasn't had much luck against South Granville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets are taking a road trip to face off against the South Granville Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Roanoke Rapids is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They strolled past South Columbus with points to spare, taking the game 56-39.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Granville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They breezed past Heide Trask to the tune of 89-59 on Tuesday. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matches by 29 points or more this season.

Roanoke Rapids better keep an eye on KJ Terry. He was instrumental in South Granville's win, dropping a triple-double with 33 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. The dominant performance gave Terry a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Traevon Hayes, who went 7-for-14 on his way to 16 points along with eight steals and five boards.

South Granville's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.5 points over those games. As for Roanoke Rapids, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Roanoke Rapids took a serious blow against South Granville in their previous meeting back in February of 2021, falling 93-45. Thankfully for Roanoke Rapids, Collin Tanner (who shot 6-for-8 from deep and dropped a double-double with 32 points and ten rebounds) won't be suiting up this time.
